Le Domaine des Porteaux

Our history

The Domaine's history

The "Domaine des Porteaux" is a 400 m² property set on 6,800 m² of land. The building is rather unusual, with its varying heights and façades, but this is explained by the building’s history.

Originally, the property was a farm and there was only one house. But to accommodate all the family members, a second house was built as an extension of the first.

In 2008, the farmhouse caught the eye of a Michelin-starred chef during a visit to his brother, who was then a priest in Sartilly. The chef transformed the property’s grounds into an orchard and vegetable garden to supply his Parisian restaurant, and his brother came to live in one of the two houses when he retired.

They began renovating the other part of the building to turn it into a holiday cottage, but they didn’t see the project through and decided to sell.

The rest is up to us to write!

How and when it all began!

The project tells the story of four couples who are friends, whose children all attend the same village school – four local families who have decided to embark on a wonderful (and slightly crazy) project together!

It all began in the summer of 2025, during a walk along the GR223 with parents and children. The bay, Mont-Saint-Michel and Tombelaine on one side, Genêts on the other. And by the side of the path, this huge farmhouse... No sign that it’s for sale, but we imagine, we joke…

Then, a few weeks later, one of us stumbles across a sale advertisement for the house and sends it to the others…

In the following days, we visited, went back for a second look, and eventually made an offer that was accepted.

No time to waste! While waiting for the sale to go through, we brought in construction workers and started drawing up plans with an architect. The aim? To start running the business in summer 2026.

And finally, after three months of juggling between the estate agent, the solicitor, the bank and the accountant, the day of the final signing arrives.

On 12 December 2025, all eight of us become the owners of the property!

The renovation

The very next day after signing the contract, the renovation started. Our aim was to assist the construction workers in speeding up the project and ensuring that everything ran smoothly between the different trades. By also taking on certain time-consuming tasks that don’t require specialist skills (demolition, clearing out, etc.), we saved time.

In the "Gîte Mer", all the rooms were already in place and the previous owner had already started renovating, so we had less major work to do in that part (mainly creating openings), but we had to adapt to the existing layout to ensure the interior design remained consistent.

In the "Gîte Terre", which hadn’t been renovated by the previous owner, there were only three rooms: a large hall with a 6-metre-high ceiling and a living room on the ground floor, plus a large room upstairs. So we had to create everything from scratch, including the indoor swimming pool, to be installed in a barn situated as an extension of the building.
